Yeah.. Heard tikalun to refer to Ilonggos. But really now, it doesnt carry much weight to us taga Cebu than being accused of hambugero. Hence, its just a word we pick up from.. well most likely, an Ilonggo acquaintance. I guess the harmful usage is when used by someone who really knows how to speak hiligaynon.

I mean, believe me, tikal when used in cebu is nowhere near as what the word odong really means.

Also, the saying ang kwarta ginapiko kag ginapala is really taken as a joke than anything else.

@Popstar,
The article has has nothing to do how the rest of the populace looks like as per my several comments above. I hate repeating but being ugly means non-TV actress material and it comes from people who were/are paraded by media what an artist-looking face should be. It's a distorted perception what a singers' face should be.

In the article, such attribution actually the reason why she failed to be recognized locally and that perception, I believe, will eventually change as Charice has already done so great and people who thought differently may start rethinking their position as there are actually no fair basis for their protestations.

But then again, I take your suggestions about redoing the title. Thanks nonetheless.

then you should have titled it "why charice's perceived 'ugly face' by Filipinos can be a blessing in disguise." people around the world google her now you know. And i get that since you say this article is for filipinos, so she is categorically, according to you with your title, an ugly person in your country. Wow! You all must be good looking!

@Popstar,
You could have saved yourself from the hassle of replying if you didn't skip reading the preceding comments. Besides, why try giving another contextual meaning of the word ugly for an article never addressed to non-Filipinos?

Perceived ugly face?! First Charice is not ugly. In fact she is cute and adorable! Second if she is perceived to have an ugly face there in your country, that is not how it is with the rest of the world. I get the point of your article but the title kinda turns-off the reader to accept whatever opinions you have on this article, even if they're mostly positive to charice. The title is irresponsible, insensitive and really offensive not just to Charice, to her fans, but also to people around the world who never even thought that someone as cute as Charice could be branded as "ugly". Either change the title or just delete your blog.

@bisaya, I only approved one of your comments so as not to pollute this section with so many uneducated rants. And of course, to limit to comments away from people who lack the basics of social analysis.

The title is indeed 'provocative'...but it was never meant to fans. It was directed to educate those people who morbidly populate internet forums by literally calling Charice ugly or equate her face to a siopao and to provide a rational point.

@Siopao,
The word "ugly" is already 3-years old since Charice burst into the international music scene, perhaps even longer starting from the time when she joined the little big star and lost. Some responses here so far were virtually clueless what was going on since then.

But then again, the article wasn't focus on that negation but on the bright side where the focus is now mainly on her talent going places and to which Filipinos should put more weight.

We all know that in the Philippines that there are artists with good looks but sounded just so so and yet selling albums.

I'm sure, people around here will die of heart attack once they read the perception about Charice's looks around the internet. Charice may have a great voice. But to some, her looks is not for the mainstream & we all know that it's debatable.

I just can't understand why people here attack the writer for using the word "ugly" when he said it could be a blessing in disguise. Crappy fanatics! They can't even explain why Charice has to go for a botox procedure at a very young age.
